The Vinton County Historical and Genealogical Society recently laid a ceremonial wreath on the grave of Martin Essex, a Ray native who became a nationally-known school administrator. The annual wreath-laying has become a tradition for the Society to honor a person from the area who has made significant contributions to local history.
Students at Vinton County Middle School in seventh and eighth grades completed a 6-month stock market competition. Students began with $10,000 in virtual currency, buying and selling real stocks. They learned how the market works, what the symbols mean, how to research companies and mathematics behind stocks.
